Lateral Movement

Lateral Movement

Definition

Lateral movement describes techniques attackers use to progressively move through a network after gaining initial access, seeking higher-value targets or elevated privileges. Common methods include pass-the-hash, Kerberoasting, and exploiting trust relationships between systems.

Micro-segmentation, ZTA, and NDR solutions are primary controls for detecting and containing lateral movement.
