Definition

An artifact registry is a managed repository service for storing, versioning, and distributing build artifacts such as container images, Helm charts, npm packages, and Maven JARs. Cloud-native registries like Google Artifact Registry, AWS ECR, and GitHub Container Registry provide access controls, vulnerability scanning, and geo-replication.

Registries are a critical link in the software supply chain.
